GT Club Runs - Swansea
With the Christmas Break over we were keen to take the car out for a run, as it had been since the NSW Christmas Party in December that we had last been on a cruise with others. Unfortunately, the hubby had to work, and as I was keen to go out, I finally got to drive our precious on a Saturday Night Cruise around Newcastle.
We met at Hexham Macca's were the turn-out was fantastic. Eleven GT's in all turned up to the first meet of the year. It was decided that we would take a cruise into Town, do a lap of the foreshore area, then take the scenic drive through Merewether out to Charlestown and then down to Swansea.
We all left eager and as I brought my brother along for company (a mad Ford Nut) he took photos of the cars in action whilst we were cruising into town. Unfortunately I left my run too late and was caught in the right hand lane and had to try to link up with the group as they headed into Honeysuckle. I tried to meet them at Civic, to find that as we rounded the corner to go over the rail, the last two GT's in the queue turn the corner and disappear, as I had to come to a halt on the wrong side of the dinging lights (frustrating)
We caught up with the group on the end of the loop and followed them through the scenic route out to the pacific highway on the north side of Charlestown. Where one of our members started having car problems. He had just rebuilt his XB Wild Violet and today was the first cruise he was able to get out on. Unfortunately, it looked like he should have taken it for a drive before the run. After about twenty minutes, we started to move south, through Charlestown and Gateshead, to pull over again just before heading up the hill to Belmont. His car, was having major fuel problems, and it was decided that he would need to call it quits for the evening and Tony K towed him home for the night.
We traveled on to Swansea Macca's and parked the cars in a small group to stop the door banger problems. The line up for dinner was horrendous, and we were contemplating driving a GT through the drive thru with an order for all of our dinners to beat the crowd. With there being such a rush the ice cream machine broke down twice, much to the disgust of the littlies that had joined us on the run.
After dinner a group of us still didn't want to go home, so we decided a cruise back into town would be the best idea to soak up the rest of the evening. A great night was had by all, except the one driver that had mechanical problems.
