Newcastle GT Club Run - Nelson Bay
Todays run was a twighlight run. The plan was to meet at Hexham Maccas at 5pm and all decide which direction to head. When it came time to leave home for the meet at maccas the weather at our house was looking grim to say the least. We decided the GT hasnt been left in the garage for 30 years in case it rains so off we set. Arriving at the maccas not a GT in sight. I started worrying that the ominous clouds had scared the others into staying at home as this isnt an official club run. Luckily after only a minute we were joined slowly by the rest of the group and we ended up with 7 starters.
The general consensus was to head for Nelson Bay. Some suggested heading into town but traffic was mentioned as a negative for that plan so we headed toward the long open roads Nelson Bay way. This plan had the added benefit of driving away from the very dark grey mass of cloud headed our way. A good plan it seemed till the drive home.
We assembled in standard reverse parking order on Nelson Bay foreshore. Most people got out the standard fold out chairs and esky and had a yarn. Some onlookers stopped to check out the cars and a good time was had by all. After an hour or so those very dark grey clouds were getting ever closer and ever darker. Lightning started lighting up the Nelson Bay skyline. This seemed to be a good enough signal that it may be time to head off. This was confirmed when Nelson Bay was hit by a series of blackouts. If anyone was still there, they packed up and left at that stage.
