GT Club Runs - Kangaroo Valley

New South Wales GT Club

This was my first run with the New South Wales boys for quite a while. The last run I actually attended solely as a member of the NSW club was my first ever run which was the Palm Beach run. I have attended other runs they have been to including the wollombi run.

After bugger all sleep the night before I peeled myself out of bed when the alarm clock woke me at around 5am. The missus and I got the baby ready to go and packed everything we would need for the day. This run was shaping up to be quite an epic considering our starting location of the central coast. The drive to the meeting point at uncle leos truck stop at Casula took and hour and a half by itself. I was joined for this part of the run by a fellow NSW club member and coastie Peter who drove his white XY. The company was appreciated on such a long opening leg of the day.

Arriving at the meet point we found ourselves alone in the car park. The meet time was for 8:30am for a estimated 9am leave. We arrived at just after 8am or so. So it was no surprise we were alone. It wasn't long before we were joined by some other early birds and after the initial trickle the bulk of the attendees arrived. After some brief pic taking and a brief chat the time had come to head off. The club usually has a lead vehicle and a trailing vehicle to pick up any stragglers or cars in trouble. The club played some fun overtaking games driving down the M5 and after a squirt I unintentionally found myself in the lead of the pack I was in. I knew the way to Bowral but wasn't so sure of the road to Kangaroo Valley so I pulled over to allow someone else to take the lead. My plan went pear shaped when every car following me pulled over with me. Luckily one car did continue the charge and sheepishly I re-joined the pack for the rest of the journey.

Arriving at the destination after a nervous and rather steep decent into the valley we found ourselves at a pub not too different to the Wollombi surroundings. A nice sized car park just barely held the 30 cars that turned up for the event. After all the precision reverse parking was completed it was time for everyone to jump out and start the obligatory car inspections and chats. We decided to enjoy some lunch at a take away down the road and enjoy the day taking photos of cars and talking to some of the attendees.

Unfortunately all good things must end and the time had come for us to make our departure. We decided to take a different route home and set off for Berri and the run through Jambarroo, Wollongong and home through appin and back to the hume. I will suggest anybody thinking of doing likewise not take the road to berri and instead head to Nowra and drive back. The road to Berri was rather narrow and at some points was very close when cars came the other way. Not the best road for these sorts of cars.

Enjoy the pics.
