MUSCLE CAR MASTERS - EASTERN CREEK

What a great event the 2005 muscle car masters proved to be. Sure it rained all day on the sunday. But it still attracted a large assortment of muscle cars and fans proving the day is worthwhile and should ensure it will again be an event not to miss in 2006.

Driving to this event on Sunday it started teaming down on the F3. We still had a good hour or so left to drive just to get there. Looking at the horizon ahead through the down poor only served to drop our spirits even more. Dark clouds loomed guaranteeing we were in for a long day. At one point on Penant Hills road we were debating whether or not to just turn around and head home. If it was going to rain all day there seemed little point of making the trip. Luckily for us we decided to press on in hopes the day could be salvaged.

I'm very glad we made that decision. The day wore on and the rain kept up the pace. But that didn't dampen our spirits. With a skid pan full of classic aussie muscle and the track coming alive to the sounds of V8 power after a while the rain just didn't matter. Instead of dominating the day as it had promised to earlier it had given way to the event. Let it rain.

There was plenty to do. Under cover behind the main straight grand stand sat some of the finest historic muscle there for us to get up close and have a good look at. To match the fine muscle on display the event had attracted some of the finest muscle car pilots of a bygone era. As such when the track fell silent there was something to look forward to looking at.

Our time for the parade laps arrived so we jumped in and took our GT out onto the track with the rest of the assembled muscle. Taking it pretty easy around the track in the heavy rain was a little disheartening. Arriving at the main straight where there seemed to be a traffic jam proved more interesting. Drivers were getting to the top of the straight, letting the cars in front go and gunning it down past the main grand stand and slowing up in time for the water logged first corner. This proved to be the order of the day as this was the only real safe place to do this on the circuit.

After our few laps around the track we decided to head off not long after. Deciding to leave a bit early to get home before nightfall whilst it was still raining. It saved a trip in the dark and heavy rain.

One memory I will keep for long after will be strolling up to John Goss's pits to see his family car up on stands minus its street wheels. It didn't take long to find em though. They were on his XB he was preparing for his master blaster display. Just to show his commitment to the event.

The following pics were taken by my brother in law M Bradford. I didn't get my camera out for this day as Eastern Creek had already cost me over a thousands dollars in camera equipment thanks to the 2004 V8 super car event and the rain on that day. As such neither of us felt like snapping a lot of photos. So due to the lack of photos for the event I decided to put up some larger pics to enjoy.
